## About Laravel

Laravel is a web application framework with expressive, elegant syntax. We believe development must be an enjoyable and creative experience to be truly fulfilling. Laravel takes the pain out of development by easing common tasks used in many web projects, such as:

- [Simple, fast routing engine](https://laravel.com/docs/routing).
- [Powerful dependency injection container](https://laravel.com/docs/container).
- Multiple back-ends for [session](https://laravel.com/docs/session) and [cache](https://laravel.com/docs/cache) storage.
- Expressive, intuitive [database ORM](https://laravel.com/docs/eloquent).
- Database agnostic [schema migrations](https://laravel.com/docs/migrations).
- [Robust background job processing](https://laravel.com/docs/queues).
- [Real-time event broadcasting](https://laravel.com/docs/broadcasting).

Laravel is accessible, powerful, and provides tools required for large, robust applications.

## Learning Laravel

Laravel has the most extensive and thorough [documentation](https://laravel.com/docs) and video tutorial library of all modern web application frameworks, making it a breeze to get started with the framework. You can also check out [Laravel Learn](https://laravel.com/learn), where you will be guided through building a modern Laravel application.

If you don't feel like reading, [Laracasts](https://laracasts.com) can help. Laracasts contains thousands of video tutorials on a range of topics including Laravel, modern PHP, unit testing, and JavaScript. Boost your skills by digging into our comprehensive video library.

## Laravel Sponsors

We would like to extend our thanks to the following sponsors for funding Laravel development. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please visit the [Laravel Partners program](https://partners.laravel.com).

## License

The Laravel framework is open-sourced software licensed under the [MIT license](https://opensource.org/licenses/MIT).

## Local development (Apache)

If you are using Apache for local development, this repository includes a vhost template at `apache/docs-localhost.conf.template` and an install script at `scripts/install-vhost.sh` to help configure your local machine.

See `apache/README.md` for usage instructions and common commands to install and enable the vhost on Ubuntu/Debian systems.

## Multi-language support (admin & frontend)

This repository now contains a basic multi-language system for categories and articles. Key features:
- A `languages` table (and `Language` model) and admin CRUD to add/enable languages
- Per-entity translation tables: `article_translations`, `category_translations`
- `primary_locale` columns on `articles` and `categories`
- Admin UI supports adding translations for additional locales on create/edit

Quick setup:
1. Run migrations: `php artisan migrate`
2. Seed default languages (English & Arabic): `php artisan db:seed`
3. Backfill existing content into translations: `php artisan trans:backfill`

Notes:
- The default app locale is used as the primary locale for new records and seeding.
- Search and article show pages now resolve translations per current user locale.
- Future steps: improve per-locale validation, add searching/indexing across locales, and add redirects when an article's slug is only in a fallback locale.

### LibreTranslate integration 🔧

- Use a local LibreTranslate instance to auto-translate fields from the primary locale when you click **Copy from primary** in the admin create/edit views for Articles and Categories.
- Configure the URL and optional API key in your `.env`:

```
LIBRETRANSLATE_URL=http://localhost:5000
LIBRETRANSLATE_API_KEY=
```

- The frontend calls a new admin endpoint (`POST /admin/translate`) which proxies to LibreTranslate and returns translated values for the requested fields. If translation fails, the UI falls back to copying primary values.

## Testing

To run the test suite locally you need the PHP SQLite PDO extension available (the test suite uses an sqlite database by default). On Debian/Ubuntu systems install it with:

	sudo apt install php-sqlite3

Or enable the `pdo_sqlite` extension in your PHP installation.
